About Us

Be A Geek is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization on a mission to create a more diverse and equitable STEM community. We are dedicated to encouraging and enabling Black students and professionals to pursue and excel in STEM careers.

Our Vision

Increasing diversity and equity in STEM is crucial for creating a more just and innovative society. By addressing the barriers that Black students and professionals face in pursuing STEM careers, we aim to provide the support and resources needed to overcome these obstacles. Our goal is to ensure that everyone has the freedom and opportunity to pursue their passions and contribute to advancing science, technology, engineering, and math.

What We Do

1. Encourage: We positively influence cultural and societal perceptions that often deter Black youth from pursuing STEM careers, celebrate Black STEM professionals through creative and innovative initiatives, and promote STEM-related jobs as exciting career choices.
2. Enable: Our Be A Geek app closes the gap between Black students, parents, educators, and high-quality STEM programs. We connect youth with STEM opportunities based on key demographics such as age, gender, interest, and skill level.
3. Empower: We support local STEM programs by providing them with essential resources to achieve their missions and sustain operations. Our app matches these programs with volunteer STEM experts, donors, and sponsors.
