Support Experiencing the Beauty of Motherhood, Without Fear
The Afiya Center (TAC) was founded in response to the increasing disparities between HIV incidences nationwide and the extraordinary prevalence of HIV among Black womxn and girls in Texas. We have long recognized that change can only occur when looking at the systemic and environmental concerns that position Black womxn to experience health disparities at higher rates than other individuals. TAC is unique because we serve as the only Black reproductive justice organization in North Texas. We intentionally prioritize our affinity to serve Black womxn, girls, femmes, and transgender/gender non-conforming people (TGNC) throughout the state, consistent and unapologetic in our quest to advocate for Black womxn in Texas.
We seek to assist Black womxn in elevating and addressing their day-to-day experiences as a historically marginalized group through the use of the reproductive justice lens, believing that this platform serves not only as an avenue for raising awareness but also for establishing true advocacy work rooted in self-actualization, powerful storytelling, and knowledgeable electoral engagement.

Oak Cliff Birth Center Saves Lives
On October 29th, 2022, The Afiya Center marked a momentous occasion—the grand opening of its office building and birth and wellness center, culminating 14 years dedicated to serving the community. Approaching nearly two years since its establishment, the center stands as a safe haven for Black womxn and birthing individuals seeking assistance with their reproductive care. Nestled in the heart of southern Dallas, The Afiya Center’s new office space serves as a sanctuary of healing and an avenue of accessibility for the local community, nurtured by individuals who mirror the very essence of the community they serve. Beyond this familiarity, they encounter an atmosphere steeped in respect, dignity, and compassion.
Within these walls, there is an abundance of offerings awaiting Black womxn and birthing individuals:
This endeavor bridges the gaps in care accessibility that have long eluded all members of the Black community. The mission of this space is steadfast—to ensure the flourishing of all Black womxn and birthing individuals, underpinned by the fundamental tenet of Reproductive Justice: to parent, to not parent, and to parent in safe and healthy environments.
As the vision for both the infrastructure and the organization unfurls, a tapestry of exciting possibilities beckons. As The Afiya Center continues its growth trajectory, this establishment stands firm, anchoring it to the very essence of its community.
