The Workers Center for Racial Justice (WCRJ) is a grassroots organization fighting for Black Liberation and a fair and inclusive society that benefits all people.

We organize Black workers and their families to address the root causes of high rates of unemployment, low-wage work and over-criminalization impacting Black communities. Through organizing, policy advocacy, leadership development and voter engagement, we are building a caring economy and society that allow Black people to reach their full human potential.

Formerly incarcerated workers founded WCRJ in 2012. Our organizational activities include:

  1. Relationship buildingour Inclusive Democracy Team of canvassers go door-to-door in Black neighborhoods that have been impacted by disinvestment and over-criminalization, with the goal of learning about the issues that residents are most concerned about and engaging new members.
  2. Leadership development: we offer community members a range of activities designed to build their civic leadership skills, including issues education sessions, organizing trainings, and workshops on how they can impact the legislative process.
  3. Black voter engagementwe talk to voters in their communities year-round to drive informed electoral participation, increase Black voter turnout, and combat voter suppression.
  4. Grassroots policy advocacy: informed by input from thousands of community members each year, we develop and advance policies that improve quality of life for Black individuals and families, low-wage workers, formerly incarcerated persons, and other marginalized communities.
  5. Issues campaignswe connect issues that are important to low-income Black communities to the importance of ongoing civic and electoral participation
  6. Direct action through organized acts of protest, community forums, and other activities designed to hold elected officials accountable to the needs of Black residents, we build public support for key structural reforms.
