Rules & Prizes

Rules & Eligibility

Only registered nonprofit organizations that have been approved to participate in Give 8/28 are eligible to win prizes. Each nonprofit participating in Give 8/28 filled out a registration form that provided information about their nonprofit. Eligibility for certain prizes (such as regional prizes) is determined based on that information, as well as your nonprofit's legal information. If your organization filled out your registration form incorrectly, you may be ineligible to win regional prizes if you did not provide the correct information. No changes will be made to leaderboards or prize eligibility during the live event.

Only donations made through Mightycause, Give 8/28's platform partner, are eligible for prizes. Offline donations or donations collected through other online donation platforms do not count toward prizes, but can be added to your display totals on your Mightycause profile to reflect the full scope of your fundraising efforts for Give 8/28.

2024 PRIZES

Prizes for Give 8/28 are split into several different categories.

Please review the information below to understand which prizes your organization is eligible for so you can strategize to win!

PRIZE LIMITS: Organizations are only eligible to win two (2) cash prizes during the giving day. In the event more than two prizes are won, only the first two will be awarded based on time and order of the prize event. Prizes are awarded at the sole discretion of Young, Black & Giving Back Institute. All prize wins listed should be considered preliminary until your nonprofit is notified via email.

Prize amounts are not reflected in organization totals.

Leaderboards

Leaderboards will appear on the Give 8/28 website after the event has officially begun on 8am on August 28th.

There will be an All Participants Leaderboard so all organizations can see their overall standing during the event. In addition, there will be sponsor-specific leaderboards. If you are not sure where you're ranked on a leaderboard you're eligible for, please use the search tool on the leaderboard to see where you're positioned! Leaderboards update in real-time.

Leaderboard - These leaderboards will rank eligible nonprofit organizations based on Most Dollars Raised. That means the leaderboard will be tracking all eligible nonprofits and the amount they have raised online.

Offline donations do not count for leaderboard totals.

Hourly Prizes

>>Power Hours:

Power Hours are hour-long fundraising sprints where eligible nonprofits compete for a prize! There are two kinds of Power Hours: Most Dollars Raised and Most Unique Donors.

  • Most Dollars Raised:  These Power Hours are pretty straightforward! Eligible nonprofits compete to win a prize by raising the highest amount in the space of the Power Hour.
  • Most Unique Donors: A Most Unique Donors Power Hour is all about volume. Nonprofits are competing to bring in the most individual donors in the space of an hour, and the aim is to help bring in more people! Because these hours calculate individual donors, one person making multiple donations in the space of an hour will be counted as a single donor.

>>Golden Tickets:

Golden Tickets are random prizes. During a Golden Ticket hour, the Mightycause platform will pull a donor who has given to an eligible nonprofit at random who made their gift during that hour as the winner of the Golden Ticket. The organization will win a prize on top of that donor's generous gift.
