I'm excited to share with you that Recovery Café DC (where I work) is participating in the ONLY day of giving specifically focused on Black-led and Black-serving nonprofit organizations. The official day is August 28th, and early giving is now OPEN!
The overall goal for this fundraiser is to raise $3,000 for Recovery Café DC (RCDC)
And, there is a special match for Recurring Donation
My specific goal is $750.
I hope you'll consider helping me reach and maybe exceed that goal!
Recovery Cafe DC (RCDC) is a Black-led and Black-benefiting nonprofit located in Southeast (Anacostia) DC. It was founded in 2018 and currently operates from rented space in the Jubilee Jobs office in Southeast DC.
About the Co-Founders: Donald and Jacqueline Conerly are deeply committed leaders. Since the earliest days, their vision has been to create healing opportunities for people who have experienced traumas from addiction, mental health challenges, physical and/or emotional violence, incarceration, and other sources. They bring a focus that is personally and powerfully anchored in Southeast DC

RCDC Programs:
- RCDC Recovery Circles enable Members to work on their recovery in a safe and supportive setting.
- School for Recovery Classes provide opportunities to (re)claim and/or develop skills and experience that will support Members as they engage with the wider world around them. Some examples have been "Be Your Best Self" focusing on self-esteem; Anger Management; Art Therapy; Financial Skill-building and/or individualized coaching; a Women's Walking Group; and much more.
- Members are encouraged to give back to the community by sharing their skills and talents. Members can also become leaders in and for the RCDC community by completing the Recovery Coach Training process. RCDC is proud to say that 6 people currently serve as Member Leaders in the Café.
Examples of how the funds would be used:
Funds raised through this #Give 8/28 campaign will directly serve the 50 café members. Your donations:
- Ensure healthy meals on program days;
- Provide transportation support to come and go from programs - including transport through RCDC; RideShare; MetroAccess, etc.;
- Support the costs of Recovery Coach Training classes for Café Members interested in becoming Member-Leaders.
- Provide funds for CPR Certification and Narcan Training for Staff and Member Leaders
In July, Recovery Café DC became a full member in the national Recovery Café Network. This means that we join with 70 other Cafés that are working across the US and Canada. What we do here in DC will be joined with what is done at other Cafés and will help to demonstrate the collective impact of this powerful work.
AND... Exciting news:
The property that RCDC purchased to be its permanent home is now "Under Construction"! We expect to be moving into the new space toward the end of 2025.
