SLAM Academy of Atlanta, a K - 5 tuition-free public college preparatory charter school, offers a rigorous curricular program aligned to the Georgia Standards of Excellence that engages students in the learning process by using the concept of sport to make learning meaningful and relevant.

Currently, 100%  of SLAM's scholars are black, 93% of scholars receive free or reduced lunch, and approximately 10% are considered homeless. 

OUR MISSION

SLAM Academy of Atlanta will provide an engaging, challenging, and supportive learning environment that motivates all students to be the best they can be in and out of the classroom and prepares them for future success.

OUR PURPOSE
Our primary purpose is to offer a tuition-free public college preparatory charter school open to all students, regardless of academic standing, socioeconomic background, race, gender, or ethnicity who seek careers in the sports industry. The outcomes will evidence that SLAM’s innovative K-12 model closes the achievement gap and increase graduation rates for the population it serves, prepares all students for college and beyond, and develops passionate individuals with the capacity, preparation, and motivation to be world changers.  

SLAM MODEL

At its core, sport is about a healthy competition to reach an ultimate goal -- whether is it becoming a professional athlete or competing to get accepted into the best college pre-med program. By SLAM’s definition of sports, both fit the bill. To SLAM, the word “sports” is not about being the best athlete; rather, it refers to students engaging in positive competition within the classroom that allows them to experience dealing with success, failure, and teamwork. 

SLAM’s research-based educational program design is partly grounded on the philosophy of the three R’s: Rigor, Relevance, and Relationships. In alignment with the Georgia Standards of Excellence, SLAM will close the achievement gap by providing:

• Setting Rigorous expectations for all;
• Providing relevant and meaningful learning opportunities;
• Engaging students in the learning process by leveraging their love of sports; and
• Providing opportunities for genuine relationships among students, teachers, families, and the community.

 ELEMENTARY PROGRAM FOCUS

The elementary curriculum emphasizes sports science in the STEM fields. There is dedicated time daily to develop character, mindfulness, and leadership skills. Students will participate in active play, express themselves through the arts, and immerse themselves in technology. Engaging in both predictable and unpredictable real-world situations, students will develop problem management skills and learn to work with others to come up with solutions. This provides a framework for a seamless transition to middle school, high school, and beyond, producing career-oriented graduates.
