MH Boxes was founded by Mila, a resilient 12-year-old who faced mental health challenges and recognized a pressing need within her community. Coming from a bi-racial family, Mila was acutely aware of the disparities in mental health perceptions, particularly within the Black community. While conversations about mental health are commonplace in some families, they often carry significant stigma in Black families.
Motivated by her experiences and the desire to make a difference, Mila established MH Boxes as a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting Black adolescent girls. MH Boxes provides services aimed at supporting the mental health and well-being of Black adolescent girls. We distribute mental health toolboxes filled with carefully curated coping tools, educational materials, and self-care items designed to support mental health. We facilitate peer support networks where participants can share experiences, offer mutual support, and engage in open discussions about mental health. These services collectively aim to increase mental health awareness, improve coping skills, reduce stigma, and foster a supportive community environment for Black adolescent girls.
